Good Methods for a Good Result

Padang (12/8) – methods is a regular way that uses to do a work for a good result. When teaching students, a teacher or lecture also use a learning methods which is purposed the materials of study being easier to understand by the students. Every teacher or lecture has the different learning methods. There are use slide, write down in the whiteboard and then explain the materials to the students, or the other methods.

A lecture from Andalas University, Gindho Rizano SS.M.Hum uses unique and interesting learning methods to teach Listening in that university, exactly in English Department 2016. The methods that pak Gindho use is study using card. The students assigned to make group card and individual card. For the group card, pak Gindho give instruction to make collocation. A group has to collect three cards every week. For the individual cards, the student assigned to write down what they learn and listen from website that they choose, like difficult words, phrasal verb, the pronounced of the word, etc. And for the size of the card, it has determined and mutually agreed together. It is about 17 x 13 cm. While for the card design, pak Gindho give freedom to the students to make their creativity.

An English Department students 2106 UNAND, Sherly (19) who have taken Listening course with pak Gindho said that the learning methods using this card is quite helpful.

She said “quite helpful. Because from this card can help me to still remember every listening input that I got from the website from where I had study. In addition, there is color and picture on that card, so it is more interesting. But for the more effective, I think the students have to write down with themselves in their book about the kind of the audio that they have listen and learn every day. So they not only stuck on one card that just they make once a week.”

A good methods surely have to applied so that the students faster to understand the learning materials which is given by their teacher or lecture. For the application this methods in another courses, Sherly said that it is less effective because every course has different number of materials.

“It seems if for other courses, especially Literature which is have so many writing there. I think it is less effective because we required to forming the card with picture for every material that we learn. I think it will waste our time and the materials that had we got even it has limit because the size of the card is small.” She adds.

She hopes that from that card she can increase her capability in learning English, especially in Listening.
